Hello Sir, not a tech giant here; but I really love this program and have bee using it for years. Last night I loaded it and the program is tiny. Fonts are so small it is hard to read. What happened? Running new Windows 10, just had a recent update.

I suspect come display configuration changed with the update. Do you see similar issues with other programs? One thing to try is to change your display settings. Failing that, you can change the fonts within NM Collector Software. You can change the fonts through the Format > "Change All Fonts" menu item

Getting a 404 error on all the upgrade links like a previous poster did, just FYI. Will try again later.

Thanks. I did not realize the download links are broken. I will investigate why this evening when I can get back to my computer.

OK, so what you need to do is download and install the newest version of the software from here:

Then copy your nmcswDB folder from backup to the new installation in the NMCollectorJE\NMCollectorJE.app\Contents\Resources folder. It is best to delete the nmcswDB that came with the new install before you copy your nmcswDB folder in its place.

Hello,
It's been a while since I accessed my program as I haven't had any updates and the USB has just been sitting in the safe. I have tried it on three separate computers trying to open my database and all three say the same error message! It says "Application is already running or error connecting to encrypted database. This attempt will shut down." What do I do?! Is my collection erased and gone?! Please help! It is being run off of the same computer that the database was made on if that matters.

Clay Sunday, 14 May 2017 07:46

In general, this message says that it cannot connect to the database either because it is already locked or it was encrypted and something changed in the encryption settings.

Hopefully the problem is the former. Please close all of your windows on your computer and look for any hidden windows that might be a copy of NM Collector running that you do not know about and shut it down. If you can't find any, please try shutting your computer down and then restarting it to clear anything that might have a lock on the database.

If that does not solve the problem then we might be able to recover as follows:

1. locate the file named app.props and make a backup copy of it in case you need to recover it.

2. in the original app.props file, look for a line that reads "encrypted=no" and change it to read "encrypted=yes"

Try running nmCollector again.

Clay,
Thanks for the quick response! I am not at all computer savvy, so I apologize in advance if I am below your level! The only PROPS file I see in my USB menu is a "configuration.props" file, and it will not open either. I have tried it on three separate computers multiple times after a series of shut down/ start up cycles and it is always the same message. Checked the task manager and it's definitely not running in the background... Again, I apologize for my computer ignorance! Do you have any other ideas?! Thanks very much for your help!

configuration.props is open and doesn't have any info about encryption...

Is there a backup somewhere that you can try? I'm afraid there is nothing we can do about this one. If you want you can mail it to me and I can see if I can get to the data somehow. If you want to try that you can send it to:

Clayton J. Pryor
C/O R. B. White, P.C.

Albuquerque, New Mexico 87113

Sorry about that.

Clay,
Could we possibly try a phone call first before I send it out?

Unfortunately I have to see if I can recover your data using my development environment. Hopefully the database is not encrypted because if it is I will not be able to recover it.

Clay,
Unfortunately I have a family emergency I have to deal with for the next week or so. I will see if I cannot find someone more computer savvy than me to try and access the data, but if not, I will send it along your way. I will let you know before I send it! Thank you again for all your help thus far

I am currently using version 2.5.4, but see that version 4 is available.
Will my backup from my currently installed version populate the new version 4?

Yes. However, you will need to follow these instructions: [www.nmcollectorsoftware.com]

Hi!.
Love the software. I use it to document a small collection.

I recently switched computers, and all my pictures are stored on a different drive.

Is there any way to change the path in the software so that it points to the D drive instead of the C drive, for the photos path?

Running version 6

Thanks in advance!

Probably the only way is to duplicate the original file structure including the drive designator. Is there any way you can use C drive and copy the photos to the exact same directory structure as before?

Thanks,

Hi,
Love the software.
I have a small database, and I switched computers. Ver 6.0.2.

I installed the same version on the new computer, but see no "import database" option. How can I get my database to the new computer?

Thanks!

You will need to copy your old database and associated configuration files to the new installation. Based on the version number, you are using the old NM Gun Collector Software so those files will be:

nmgcsw.mdb
security.mdb
auxNMGCSW.mdb
nmgcswu.ini
Startup.ini

Just wanted to sincerely thank everybody for this collections program.I've tried a few others and they simply failed to come even close to doing what they claim. This prgram is so ridiculously easy to set up and use that even I can fully set it up as I need it to be and still use it. My collections are many, so I'm glad I found this to accurately help me keep track of them all. THANK YOU SO MUCH!! TSBVP

Have a lifetime license with 2.5.4 running, and want to upgrade to 4.0. I think I must go through version 3.1 to get the data to migrate - but I can not figure out how. Have copies of 2.5.4 with all data, and 3.1 with factory canned data. How do I get the data migrated. And follow-on, will the same steps work to migrate from 3.1 to 4.0?

Running Win7, Latest Java, Original install in directory C:NMCollectorJE and 3.1 install in C:NM Collector Software JE.

Thanks,

Tom

Yes, 2.5.4 is pretty old. I would suggest upgrading to 3.1 first. You can just copy your data (the nmcswDB folder) from the 2.5.4 installation to the 3.1 installation. To avoid any issues I would delete the nmcswDB folder from your 3.1 installation before you copy it over from the 2.5.4 installation.

I have a problem. I downloaded the free version of NM Collection and then I purchased it later. Now when I open the Options drop down menu there is no subscription option there. What do I do????

Thank You

Do you not see it under the Options > Activation > Status/Activate menu?

No, when I open the options tab there is no subscription or activation option
there.

I think I have resolved the problem. I redownloaded the program and seems to be working now.
