  • In General - All Operating Systems

    • Safely Remove USB Flash Drives - Loss of data and even damage to the USB flash drive can occur if you just yank the flash drive out of your computer without following the proper procedure.  Take the little amount of time it takes to do it right.
      1. Shut down NM Collector Software before removing the USB Flash Drive.
      2. Safely Remove the USB Flash drive.  Here are some simple instructions:

    • Make sure you have the pre-requisite Java installed - at least 1.6 ( http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp ).  NM Collector Sofware JE will not start without it and you will see a message to that effect.  If all goes well, it will then automatically send you to the Java download page.  If not just use the link above.
      • Special Mac instructions can be found here.

  • Known Issues
    • When inserting a new collection type in the Collection Types window you may have difficulty changing the default name.
      • Until this can be resolved in the next release, please use the tab key after typing the new name.  This will cause the new name to save.
    • Very large collections (e.g. 500 items) with lots of pictures (e.g. 1 - 5 pictures per item) will be VERY Slow to load and shut down if pictures are stored to the database.
      • Therefore, reference pictures from the file system - Do Not load them into the database.
      • Since version 2.1.0 you can now choose whether to store pictures in the filesy stem or the database.
      • Since version 2.1.0 you can easily migrate pictures from the file system to the database and back again.  You can use this feature to gather all of your pictures from disparate locations in your file system and relocate them all to your NM Collector Software installation directory.  If that is a USB flash drive you can take them to any computer!
